My Teaching Philosophy

My goal in teaching is to develop in each of my students a comprehensive understanding of music. Lessons in my studio focus on developing repertoire, rhythmic awareness, technique, theory/ear training, expressive playing, and practice skills.

I believe in a student–centered approach to curriculum. Rather than expect the student to follow a predetermined program, I draw from a wide array of instructional materials and approaches. Students learn practice strategies that are based on their level of instruction and the goals we are working on at that level. I am dedicated to finding the best course of study for each student, guiding each to build secure skills and to play music they enjoy.

My mission is to to inspire a love of music and help students become independent learners who can continue to enjoy making music as a lifetime pursuit.
